Leila Wells has committed to Virginia Tech, marking the final move in Megan Duffy’s 2024 recruiting class at Marquette.
Following Megan Duffy’s decision to coach at Virginia Tech, there was swift action within her 2024 recruiting class at Marquette. Two players, Kayl Petersen and Jaeda Wilson, quickly announced their recruitment was open. However, Leila Wells, the third recruit, didn’t make a public announcement.
It seems Wells may have intended to follow Duffy to Virginia Tech if there was space for her, which appears to be the case as she announced her commitment to the Hokies on Sunday.
There are some interesting dynamics in Wells’ announcement, particularly in her gratitude towards both the Marquette staff and Megan Duffy. This raises questions about the transition and relationships between the two groups.
Wells initially committed to Duffy at Marquette in July 2023 and signed her letter of intent in November. Her recruitment was somewhat rapid, with Duffy extending an offer in late May of that year. The role of assistant coach Khadijah Rushdan in Wells’ recruitment, while significant then, may have evolved given Rushdan’s current status not listed on the VaTech staff.
As for the rest of Duffy’s recruiting class, Jaeda Wilson will play for Georgetown, while Kayl Petersen’s decision remains open. Marquette’s roster situation is fluid, with players considering their options amidst coaching changes.
