49ers give contract extensions to coach Kyle Shanahan and GM John Lynch – WWLP

Who was your draft crush for the 49ers that ended up not being selected and didn’t turn out well? Let’s discuss our past misjudgments.

As the NFL Draft approaches, instead of focusing on who the San Francisco 49ers should pick or should have picked in previous years, let’s reflect on times when we were mistaken. There’s often that one player we were eager for the 49ers to acquire, only to realize later that the team made a wise decision by passing on them.

For instance, consider my own experience from 14 years ago. I wasn’t particularly astute then, as evidenced by my support for a young quarterback from Notre Dame, Jimmy Clausen. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the second round but didn’t live up to expectations, eventually making way for Cam Newton.

Another example is my enthusiasm for N’Keal Harry in 2019. While I acknowledged Deebo Samuel’s talent, I believed Harry would be exceptional. However, Harry’s career trajectory hasn’t matched expectations, currently on the practice squad for the Minnesota Vikings, while Samuel has become a crucial player in the 49ers’ offense.

So, I’m curious to hear about your draft crushes that turned out to be disappointments. Which players did you passionately advocate for, only to be relieved later that the 49ers didn’t pick them? This discussion excludes players the 49ers actually drafted; we’re focusing on those we wished for but ultimately didn’t succeed in the NFL.
