Penrith's Turuva talks a couple of weeks away: Cleary - Yahoo Sport

Ivan Cleary anticipates starting contract discussions with Sunia Turuva for Penrith in about two weeks, noting that the team has never seen any player eager to leave the successful Panthers. This news coincides with Nathan Cleary’s absence from the upcoming match against Wests Tigers due to a hamstring injury, with expectations of his return against North Queensland the following week.

Turuva, the 2023 Dally M rookie of the year, is yet to secure a contract beyond 2024 and has attracted interest from other clubs like St George Illawarra. Cleary mentioned that while they are aware of Turuva’s contract situation, formal negotiations will commence in the coming weeks as they focus on the upcoming game. The Panthers are keen on retaining Turuva, echoing their desire to keep him within the team.

Penrith faces the ongoing challenge of retaining talented players against offers from rival clubs, a situation they have navigated in recent seasons with several players departing. Cleary acknowledged this annual challenge and emphasized the importance of understanding players’ decisions to leave for better opportunities or financial incentives, considering it a testament to the club’s success.

Regarding other matters, the Panthers have addressed a social media video involving Taylan May and are optimistic about Nathan Cleary’s recovery from his hamstring injury for next week’s game.
