The Atlanta Falcons have officially signed cornerback Kevin King, marking his return to the NFL after a two-year absence.

King brings five active seasons of professional experience from 2017 to 2021, having been drafted by the Green Bay Packers out of Washington in the second round. After completing his rookie contract, King and the Packers agreed to a one-year deal in 2021.

In 2022, King opted out of the season due to personal reasons. The following year, he suffered a torn Achilles tendon during an offseason workout, causing him to miss the 2023 season. King shared his journey in a 21-minute YouTube video on May 5, 2023, detailing the events leading to his return to the NFL.

During his time with the Packers, King appeared in 51 out of a possible 81 regular-season games, starting 42. He accumulated 197 total tackles, a sack, three quarterback hits, five tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, seven interceptions, and 30 pass breakups. His standout season came in 2019, starting 14 games and posting impressive stats across the board.

King’s return to the NFL also reunites him with familiar faces in Atlanta’s coaching staff. Falcons defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake coached King during his collegiate years at Washington. Additionally, Falcons secondary coach Justin Hood and assistant head coach/defense Jerry Gray were both part of the Packers’ coaching staff during King’s tenure in Green Bay.
