LATEST NEWS: With Charleston’s transfer, Virginia Tech men’s basketball’s roster rebuilding continues.

3 truths Virginia Tech men's basketball fans don't want to hear

Virginia Tech’s men’s basketball roster rebuild continues with the addition of Ben Burnham from Charleston via the transfer portal, announced by coach Mike Young on Thursday.

In the past week, Coach Young has been actively reshaping the team for the upcoming 2024-25 season, leveraging the transfer portal. Departures such as Sean Pedulla, MJ Collins, Lynn Kidd, Tyler Nickel, and John Camden have paved the way for new additions. Notably, Mylyjael Poteat initially entered the portal but decided to return for his final season with the Hokies.

Earlier in the week, Young secured Jordan Ivy-Curry from UTSA as the first portal addition, followed by Burnham’s commitment on Thursday.

Burnham, a 6-foot-7 forward, brings versatility and scoring ability to Virginia Tech. With averages of 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and a 37% three-point shooting rate last season, he fits Young’s preference for athletic forwards who can contribute both inside and outside. His skill set aligns well with the Hokies’ offensive strategy, making him a valuable addition to the team for the upcoming season.
