Virginia Tech women's basketball: Reactions to the Hokies' hiring Megan Duffy as head coach

Virginia Tech has swiftly filled the vacancy left by Kenny Brooks, appointing Megan Duffy as the new head coach for women’s basketball in Blacksburg.

A week after Brooks’ departure for Kentucky, Virginia Tech’s athletic director, Whit Babcock, initiated the search for the next coach. The ensuing seven days left fans anxious amidst the active transfer portal activity.

On Wednesday, Babcock revealed the hiring of Megan Duffy, who brings a wealth of experience from her five-year stint at Marquette. Duffy’s impressive record includes a 110-46 overall and 64-30 Big East record, leading her teams to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. She signed a six-year contract with Virginia Tech, marking a significant commitment.

Duffy’s immediate focus will be on connecting with the current roster players who haven’t entered the transfer portal. Notable names like Clara Strack and Georgia Amoore have already made moves towards joining Brooks at Kentucky, but key players like Carleigh Wenzel, Matilda Ekh, Rose Micheaux, and Carys Baker remain undecided.

With Duffy’s proven track record, Virginia Tech fans are optimistic about her ability to maintain the team’s competitiveness in the ACC and secure regular NCAA Tournament appearances.
