Lakers vs. Nuggets: Anthony Davis injury puts more on LeBron James - The Washington Post

NBA action on April 7 saw the Minnesota Timberwolves outplay the Los Angeles Lakers, halting the Lakers’ four-game winning streak with a 127-117 victory at Crypto.com Arena. LeBron James’ absence forced the Lakers to rely heavily on Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell for scoring. However, Davis faced tough defense from Rudy Gobert, limiting his impact despite some early offensive rebounds. Russell, guarded by Jaden McDaniels, managed 15 points and 11 assists but struggled with his shooting efficiency.

The Lakers initially held a lead with contributions from Rui Hachimura, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Austin Reaves, but their momentum shifted when Davis left the game due to an eye injury. His absence exposed defensive vulnerabilities, allowing the Timberwolves’ offense to flourish, especially with Anthony Edwards and Gobert taking advantage inside.

As the game progressed, the Lakers’ bench lacked offensive punch, and their defensive strategies failed to contain the Timberwolves’ scoring, leading to a sizable deficit by the third quarter. Despite efforts from Hachimura and Jaxson Hayes, the Lakers couldn’t mount a comeback without a solid defensive presence like Davis.

In other games, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Houston Rockets 147-136, with Kyrie Irving’s outstanding 48-point performance complementing Luka Doncic’s 37 points and all-around play. The Los Angeles Clippers staged an impressive comeback against the Cleveland Cavaliers, fueled by Paul George’s 39-point effort, including clutch plays in the final moments to secure a 120-118 victory.
