New York Yankees Young Star Voted to Become Breakout Star by MLB Execs

MLB executives have identified a young star from the New York Yankees as a potential breakout player for the 2024 MLB season.

The Yankees have kicked off the season with a strong 6-1 record, positioning themselves well in the American League East early on. These wins could prove crucial in a divisional race that might be decided in the closing days of the season.

Among the standout performers in the team’s early games, Anthony Volpe has shone the brightest. In his second year, Volpe has emerged as one of the top players in baseball, providing significant support to a Yankees lineup that relies heavily on Juan Soto and Aaron Judge for production.

Despite a decent rookie season where he hit over 20 home runs, stole 20 bases, and earned a Gold Glove, Volpe’s batting average and on-base percentage were modest at .209 and .283, respectively, in 2023. However, if he can improve these offensive stats, he has the potential to become one of the premier shortstops in the league.

MLB executives, recognizing his potential, ranked Volpe as one of the breakout stars for the 2024 season. In a poll conducted by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com with over two dozen executives participating, Volpe received significant votes, tying for the fifth most.

His strong start to the season, highlighted by a .409/.500/.682 slash line with one home run and three doubles, has reinforced the belief in his capabilities. While it’s still early, Volpe’s continued offensive contributions will be key to proving himself as a high-caliber player with all the necessary skills.
