Big East Player of the Year, Devin Carter, has announced his decision to enter the 2024 NBA draft and turn professional, opting to forego his remaining NCAA eligibility, according to Jonathan Givony of ESPN.
Ranked as the No. 17 prospect on ESPN’s big board, Carter had an impressive junior season in 2023-24 with the Providence Friars, averaging 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.8 steals in 35.3 minutes per game over 33 appearances, all of which he started. He maintained shooting percentages of 47.3% from the field and 37.7% from beyond the arc on 6.8 attempts per game.
Carter initially began his college journey at South Carolina before transferring to Providence in 2022. His standout performance led him to top the Big East in scoring and earn the conference’s Player of the Year title. Although he didn’t secure a spot on any of the Associated Press’ All-America teams, he did receive honorable mentions on several ballots.
Despite his 6’3″ stature, Carter possesses a 6’9″ wingspan, excels as a rebounder for his position, and is regarded as one of the most versatile and impactful defensive players in college basketball, as noted by Givony. He is also the son of former NBA guard Anthony Carter, who currently serves as an assistant coach on Taylor Jenkins’ coaching staff for the Grizzlies.
