Marquette's season ends against NC State in Sweet 16

Marquette faced harsh criticism following a devastating loss against NC State in the Sweet 16. Social media users mercilessly mocked Marquette for their poor performance, especially their dismal shooting from long range.

The Golden Eagles fell 67-58 to NC State at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, where their shooting accuracy plummeted. They managed to make only 33.3% of their field goals, with a dismal 12.9% success rate from beyond the arc, hitting just four of their 31 attempts.

The online mockery directed at Marquette far exceeded their actual successful three-point shots. Guards Tyler Kolek and Kam Jones were the bright spots for Marquette, contributing 37 points out of the team’s total of 58, including all four made three-pointers. However, the rest of the team struggled immensely, shooting a mere 20.7% from the field and missing all 11 of their three-point attempts.

Despite Marquette’s struggles, NC State capitalized on the win to extend their impressive tournament run. Known for their surprising upsets, NC State had previously won the ACC Tournament and continued their success in March Madness. They managed to contain DJ Burns, NC State’s standout player, who finished with just four points.

In the absence of Burns’ usual dominance, NC State’s senior guards DJ Horne and Casey Morsell stepped up, scoring 19 and 15 points, respectively. NC State’s victory sets up an exciting Elite Eight matchup against Duke.
