Here’s an updated overview of the Detroit Lions’ 2024 cap space with Kevin Zeitler’s contract now included:

Kevin Zeitler: What the Lions are getting in their new guard

The Detroit Lions, under Brad Holmes’ leadership as general manager, have experienced what he considers to be the most successful free agency period. One significant addition to their roster is veteran guard Kevin Zeitler, a move that appears to have strengthened their offensive line.

Initially reported as a one-year deal worth $6 million, the details of Zeitler’s contract have since been revealed. According to Over The Cap, here is the breakdown:

– Base salary: $1.21 million (fully guaranteed)
– Signing bonus: $4.28 million (fully guaranteed)
– Per game roster bonus: $510,000 (total, $30,000 per game)
– 2024 cap hit: $5.94 million

Considering Zeitler played 15 games for the Ravens last season, $450,000 of his per game roster bonus is deemed “likely to be earned” for 2024 salary cap calculations. If he participates in all 17 games next season, the Lions will incur a $60,000 cap adjustment for 2025.

Notably, Zeitler’s deal does not include a void year to spread out his signing bonus.

As for the Lions’ overall 2024 cap space, the details of quarterback Nate Sudfeld’s recent contract are unknown but are expected to have a minimal impact on the cap. Additionally, the pending offer sheet from the 49ers to tight end Brock Wright could free up $2.985 million if the Lions choose not to match it. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the offer sheet is for three years and $12 million.

Taking into account the confirmed information as of March 30, the Lions’ updated 2024 cap space also considers the potential impact of voiding cornerback Cameron Sutton’s $10.5 million base salary after his release, designated as a post-June 1 cut.
