New York Mets pitcher Yohan Ramírez and manager Carlos Mendoza have been handed suspensions by Major League Baseball (MLB) following an incident involving Milwaukee Brewers’ Rhys Hoskins. The MLB determined that Ramírez intentionally threw at Hoskins, leading to the suspensions.
Ramírez received a three-game suspension, while Mendoza was suspended for one game, along with fines imposed on both individuals, as announced by Michael Hall, MLB’s senior vice president for on-field operations.
Mendoza’s suspension was scheduled to be served on Sunday, which was the last game of the opening series between the Mets and Brewers at Citi Field. This was also Mendoza’s third game as a major league manager.
Ramírez has chosen to appeal his suspension.
The incident occurred during the Mets’ 7-6 loss to the Brewers on Saturday, where home plate umpire Lance Barrett ejected Ramírez for throwing at Hoskins in the seventh inning. This followed a previous day’s confrontation between Hoskins and Mets’ infielder Jeff McNeil, stemming from Hoskins’ hard slide at second base on Opening Day.
During the game, Hoskins had notable offensive contributions, including a two-run single in the first inning, a two-run homer in the third, a single, and a run scored on a balk in the fifth inning, all before Ramírez entered the game.
