Providence basketball coach Kim English upset that Friars were snubbed

Kim English, head coach of Providence, expressed his frustration after the Friars failed to secure a spot in the 2024 NCAA tournament. Disagreeing with the selection committee’s decision, English criticized the reliance on analytics in college basketball, calling it “bulls–.” He argued that teams could manipulate their schedules by playing weaker opponents to inflate their margins of victory, suggesting a flaw in how success is measured in the sport. English highlighted that the Big East conference faced disparities in tournament selections, with only Marquette, Creighton, and UConn making the cut while other competitive teams like St. John’s, Seton Hall, and Providence were left out. Despite acknowledging his team’s shortcomings in some games, English stood by his belief that the analytical system has flaws that need addressing.
