Ahead of Opening Day, DJ LeMahieu provides the Yankees with a positive injury update.

The New York Yankees are anticipating a strong comeback from DJ LeMahieu in the upcoming 2024 season. Despite sustaining an injury on March 16 when he fouled a ball off his right foot, LeMahieu is aiming to be in the lineup for the Yankees’ Opening Day game against the Houston Astros on March 28.

Although he has not returned to the field yet, LeMahieu believes he is making progress. He has been undergoing rehabilitation and training in the weight room to recover.

“I’m making progress, so hopefully, I’ll be ready to play,” LeMahieu stated. “Right now, I’m gradually transitioning back to baseball activities, mostly focusing on rehab in the training room. But I’m doing my best to stay prepared by working out as much as possible.”

Before his injury, LeMahieu was determined to bounce back from a challenging 2023 season. He showcased strong hitting during spring training, catching the attention of Yankees manager Aaron Boone and many teammates with his consistent line-drive hitting.

LeMahieu faced lower-body issues during parts of the 2022 and 2023 seasons. While he started feeling stronger in the second half of last year, his overall performance fell short of his expectations.

In 2022, LeMahieu played in 125 games, and in the previous year, he played in 136 games. His batting line last season was .243/.327/.390 with 15 home runs and 44 runs batted in.
