Jonathan Romero, the 49ers’ gay cheerleader from the Super Bowl, departs from the NFL.

Jonathan Romero, the San Francisco 49ers cheerleader, has announced his retirement from the NFL. In his retirement statement, Romero, a member of the 49ers’ Gold Rush squad, expressed deep gratitude for the support he has received. He thanked the Gold Rush team, the 49ers organization, his coaches, including Laura Johnson, and the E2K staff for their support throughout his journey. Romero also thanked his teammates for treating him like family and pushing him to grow both on and off the field. He expressed appreciation for the 49ers Faithful, acknowledging them as the best fan base in the NFL.

Although Romero is stepping away from his role with the Gold Rush cheer team, he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to the NFL sidelines in the future. At 23 years old, he is focused on pursuing his educational and professional goals but remains open to new opportunities in the NFL or beyond. Despite the challenges of being one of the few openly gay male cheerleaders in the NFL, Romero described his experience as overwhelmingly positive, filled with love and support from his teammates and fans.

Moving forward, Romero is offering his choreography talents to teams at various levels, from amateur to professional, as he continues to explore new avenues in his career and personal life.
