Former New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been suspended for two games in the upcoming 2024 NFL season due to a paperwork error related to Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs), rather than for actually using PEDs.

Garoppolo, now with the Los Angeles Rams as a backup, admitted to the mistake, stating that he failed to properly file a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for a prescribed medication he was using.

The 32-year-old quarterback acknowledged his error, saying, “I mean, just messed up the TUE, really. I hate to joke about it, but I just messed up the TUE when I first got to Las Vegas and yeah, bad timing, I guess.”

Garoppolo’s journey has seen him move from the San Francisco 49ers to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023, where he faced challenges like injuries and on-field struggles before being released. Now with the Rams, he is facing suspension for the first time in his career.

Despite the setback, Garoppolo is maintaining a positive outlook, focusing on the upcoming OTAs (Organized Team Activities), training camp, and moving forward after serving the suspension. He expressed optimism about the Rams’ potential for success and his role as a backup quarterback.

Garoppolo’s contract with the Rams is reportedly for one year, and he joins quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Stetson Bennett on the team’s roster.
