Lions Eyeing Wide Receiver in Mel Kiper’s Recent Mock Draft
The Detroit Lions are reportedly looking to bolster their wide receiver position in this year’s draft, according to ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper’s latest mock draft.

In Kiper’s mock draft, the Lions are projected to select South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette with the No. 29 overall pick.

Following the free agency period, Lions general manager Brad Holmes has focused on addressing various areas of need, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. The recent acquisition of veteran guard Kevin Zeitler was aimed at compensating for the departure of starting left guard Jonah Jackson, who secured a lucrative three-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams.

Having addressed key team needs through free agency, Holmes and the front office are now in a position to prioritize the best available player with their first-round pick, potentially targeting a wide receiver.

Kiper acknowledges the progress made by Holmes since his appointment in 2021, highlighting the addition of underrated cornerback Carlton Davis as a significant move that enhances the team’s flexibility in the draft. Kiper also suggests that adding another playmaker, particularly for quarterback Jared Goff, would be beneficial for the Lions.

Based on the Lions’ official visits list, they seem to be focusing on acquiring a physically imposing wide receiver capable of playing the “X” position.

Kiper praises Legette’s performance, noting his impressive combine results and standout 2023 season statistics. Despite a slight discrepancy in listed height, Legette’s on-field contributions and versatility make him an appealing prospect for the Lions and a potential asset in enhancing their offensive capabilities.
