San Francisco 49ers’ Top Player Unhappy About Release of Veteran Defensive Leader
In a surprising move during free agency, the San Francisco 49ers decided to part ways with their longest-serving player, defensive lineman Arik Armstead.
The decision to release Armstead came after unsuccessful attempts to renegotiate his contract, following his nine-season tenure with the 49ers.
Now, with Armstead hitting the NFL free agent market, one prominent member of the 49ers roster is expressing discontent.
All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel took to social media to openly express his disappointment over Armstead’s departure, using six facepalm emojis in an Instagram Story.
Of particular note is the backdrop of rumors suggesting the Baltimore Ravens’ interest in trading for Samuel, though such a move appears improbable. Nevertheless, Samuel’s dissatisfaction hints at possible tensions within the San Francisco locker room following the departure of the respected Armstead.
In response to Armstead’s exit, San Francisco has signed defensive tackle Jordan Elliott from the Cleveland Browns in free agency and acquired Maliek Collins via trade with the Houston Texans.
While these acquisitions bolster the team’s defensive line depth, they may not fully address the void left by Armstead’s departure, a fact likely not lost on Samuel and his teammates.
