The Miami Dolphins are anticipated to seek a replacement for Christian Wilkins, who departed in free agency for the Las Vegas Raiders. With the need to bolster their pass rush, the Dolphins are expected to explore options in both free agency and the draft. Among the available defensive linemen, Arik Armstead, recently released by the San Francisco 49ers on March 13, is seen as a potential ideal fit for Miami.

Brandon Liguori of Pro Football Network has identified the Dolphins as a team to keep an eye on regarding Armstead’s potential landing spot. Despite not currently matching Wilkins’ level of play, Armstead, aged 30, still managed to record five sacks last season.

Armstead’s tenure as the captain of the San Francisco 49ers’ defense highlights his experience and leadership qualities, which could greatly benefit the Dolphins. Given Miami’s need to replace several key contributors on defense, including Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, and Andrew Van Ginkel, Armstead’s versatility and veteran presence would be valuable additions to the team.

Brian Miller of Phin Phanatic also sees Armstead as a viable option for the Dolphins, particularly since his release by the 49ers would not affect the compensatory formula. With Armstead boasting a wealth of experience since entering the league in 2015 and demonstrating the ability to play multiple positions along the defensive front, he could offer significant value to Miami’s defense. However, the key consideration remains whether Armstead’s acquisition aligns with the Dolphins’ budgetary constraints.
