Police Scotland has issued an apology to the family of Emma Caldwell, a murdered sex worker, and other victims of killer Iain Packer, acknowledging that they were “let down by policing.” The apology comes after Packer, 51, was found guilty of murdering Miss Caldwell, who went missing in Glasgow in April 2005. Her body was discovered in Limefield Woods near Roberton, South Lanarkshire, a month later. In addition to the murder charge, Packer was convicted of raping nine women and faced numerous other charges during a six-week trial at the High Court in Glasgow. Packer received a life sentence with a minimum of 36 years before parole eligibility. The police statement expressed regret for the shortcomings in the investigation and acknowledged the courage of women and girls who came forward but did not receive the justice they deserved.
