Max Verstappen Offers Assessment of Pursuing Teams After Commanding F1 Victory

Max Verstappen has shared his perspective on the competition trailing Red Bull following his dominant triumph at the Bahrain Grand Prix, which marked the commencement of the F1 season.

The three-time world champion from Red Bull made a resounding statement to his rivals with an emphatic win in Bahrain, initiating a flawless start to his defense of the F1 title.

Verstappen led his teammate, Sergio Perez, by 22.457 seconds and finished a considerable 25 seconds ahead of the first non-Red Bull contender, Carlos Sainz from Ferrari. The closest Mercedes, piloted by George Russell, trailed Verstappen by 46.788 seconds at the conclusion of the 57-lap race.

Despite the substantial margin of his victory, Verstappen maintains that Red Bull’s competitors are closer than they were in the previous year, stating, “I also think that, in general, other teams are closer.”

He acknowledged the exceptional performance on the race day, emphasizing that such optimal conditions may not be replicated in every Grand Prix moving forward. Verstappen expressed the team’s commitment to analyzing and improving further.

Responding to George Russell’s pre-race prediction of Red Bull’s significant pace advantage, Verstappen admitted that the team did not anticipate such a substantial lead but acknowledged that their performance exceeded expectations.

Looking ahead to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Verstappen does not foresee Red Bull’s dominance being as pronounced. He cited the different track layout, featuring more high-speed corners and distinct tarmac conditions, which might favor other teams.

Despite his remarkable success in 2023, winning 19 out of 22 races, Verstappen remains cautious about predicting a straightforward season. He emphasized a race-by-race approach, considering the varied scenarios and focusing on improvements. Verstappen also highlighted the uniqueness of each track and expressed his current focus on enhancing performance and preparation for the upcoming race in Jeddah.
