Alex Morgan responds to the Boston Celtics’ misidentification of Jrue Holiday’s USWNT jersey, emphasizing the importance of correctly recognizing the women’s soccer team. The Celtics, in a customary pre-game photo post, mistakenly referred to Jrue Holiday as representing the “USMNT” instead of the correct “USWNT,” despite him wearing his wife Lauren Holiday’s No. 12 jersey.

Morgan, a prominent USWNT striker, intervenes in the replies to rectify the error, pointing out the accurate designation with a tweet: “Let me help you with this– @USWNT.”

While the mix-up may appear innocuous, it reflects a broader issue within sports, particularly concerning gender equity. The USWNT has been at the forefront of advocating for equal treatment and compensation. Morgan and other members filed a complaint in 2016, leading to the signing of the Equal Pay for Team USA Act in 2022, ensuring identical pay structures for both national teams.

The Celtics’ mistake, while possibly unintentional, underscores the systemic tendency to prioritize men’s sports over their women’s counterparts. This incident, although minor, contributes to the normalization of gender-related issues, including unequal pay, resource allocation, and media coverage. Morgan, along with others in the comments, corrects the post, highlighting the significance of acknowledging the accomplishments of Jrue Holiday’s wife, who has won two Olympic gold medals and a World Cup.
