In Peoria, Arizona, had Netflix somehow convinced or persuaded the Mariners ownership group to be featured in the streaming network’s new all-access docuseries following an MLB team, an idea that seems unlikely given the organization’s reputation, the producers wouldn’t have found the typical storylines they sought. Instead, the chaotic Boston Red Sox agreed to participate in the project, a decision that may prove regrettable given the turmoil within the organization.

Spring training for the  hasMariners been relatively uneventful, much to the preference of manager Scott Servais. The returning players arrived at camp driven by their disappointment in missing the postseason in 2023 but content with the offseason acquisitions, believing they can improve in 2024. It’s a diligent group that prioritizes action over talk.

With most roster spots already determined before players arrived, there aren’t many position battles to monitor. The rotation order for opening day is likely to be influenced by the scheduling of Cactus League games this week, though Servais has been evasive about naming the starter for opening day, it’s expected that Castillo will lead the rotation, as he did last season. Miller and Woo return to the rotation after successful rookie seasons.

Beyond the MLB rotation, right-hander Emerson Hancock ranks sixth on the organizational depth chart and will start the season at Triple-A Tacoma. The Mariners received unexpected assistance when they claimed right-hander Levi Stoudt off waivers, a former pitching prospect, who will join Hancock in Tacoma. Left-hander Jhonathan Diaz, signed to a minor-league contract, has impressed in spring training and is likely to feature in the Rainiers rotation. Additionally, right-hander Casey Lawrence, previously with the Mariners in 2017-2018, has returned on a minor-league contract.
