Authorities report that a fire erupted in southeast Baltimore, resulting in the displacement of 19 individuals Baltimore City officials confirm the tragic death of an 8-year-old, with two people hospitalized and 19 others displaced in the aftermath of a fire that occurred early Tuesday morning.

Councilman Zeke Cohen disclosed that a 13-year-old and a 22-year-old are in critical condition after being hospitalized when Baltimore City firefighters were dispatched to a house fire on E. Lombard St. in southeast Baltimore just after 2 a.m.

According to department spokesperson Kevin Cartwright, heavy fire and smoke were observed emanating from both floors of the two-story brick house. Cohen praised the efforts of a captain and firefighters who bravely rescued victims by navigating through flames.

Firefighters discovered three unconscious and non-responsive individuals inside the building. They were successfully evacuated and provided with on-site medical treatment before being transported to local hospitals for further care.

Fire investigators intend to conduct a thorough examination to determine the cause of the fire.

Cohen commended the fire department’s swift response, expressing gratitude for their bravery and dedication in his social media post, acknowledging the challenging circumstances faced by the community on this day.
