Baseball Rewind: After Week 2, Alabama’s offense is 8-0 after hitting 12 home runs in five games.
In Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the second week under Rob Vaughn’s leadership proved just as exhilarating as the first. The 17th-ranked Alabama baseball squad secured victories in all five of their games this past week, defeating Middle Tennessee 6-1, Alabama State 12-0, and sweeping Valparaiso over the weekend, maintaining a flawless 8-0 record for the season.
The team showcased an explosive offense, scoring a total of 56 runs throughout the week, with four games ending early due to the mercy rule. Over the span of five games, Alabama amassed 58 hits and knocked 12 balls out of the park.
Coach Vaughn expressed satisfaction with the team’s offensive prowess following Friday’s 14-2 triumph over Valparaiso, emphasizing the need for consistent performance throughout the season.
Standout performances came from Gage Miller and TJ McCants, who collectively contributed 25 RBIs and 8 home runs. Pitcher Greg Farone also made significant contributions, striking out 10 batters while conceding only 3 hits and 1 run across two games.
Miller, with a stellar 9-for-19 performance, drove in 12 runs and smacked 4 homers, including the opening blast in Saturday’s 13-3 victory over Valparaiso.
Coach Vaughn praised the team’s aggressive approach, particularly McCants’ powerful contributions with 7 hits, 13 RBIs, and 4 home runs. McCants’ highlight reel included a grand slam against Alabama State and a pair of homers in Sunday’s 11-1 win over Valparaiso.
Farone’s pitching prowess was evident as he struck out 10 batters over 5.2 innings in two games during the week. He provided solid starts in both Tuesday’s game against Middle Tennessee and Sunday’s matchup, earning praise from Coach Vaughn for his consistency.
Looking ahead, the Crimson Tide will face UAB before heading to Texas for the Frisco Classic, where they will compete against No. 23 Indiana, Arizona, and Dallas Baptist.
