In Sunday’s Spring Game Against the Guardians, the fan favorite of the Seattle Mariners makes his team debut again.

As the Seattle Mariners gear up for their second spring training game against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday, beloved player Mitch Haniger is poised to make his return debut with the team after being re-acquired this offseason.

Haniger, a fan favorite, rejoins the Mariners after being acquired in the offseason trade that sent Robbie Ray to the San Francisco Giants. The 33-year-old outfielder is expected to primarily play in right field this season, with occasional appearances as a designated hitter, as he continues to navigate and manage his health concerns.

Despite his undeniable talent, Haniger has faced numerous injury setbacks throughout his career. Last season, while with the Giants, he battled through back, forearm, and oblique injuries. His playing time was limited to just 57 games, during which he managed a .209 batting average with six home runs, based on 211 at-bats.

Haniger’s career has seen him play for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Mariners, and Giants, maintaining a lifetime batting average of .256. He experienced his best season in 2021 with the Mariners, smashing 39 home runs and driving in 100 runs. Additionally, he earned an All-Star selection in 2018 after hitting 26 homers and tallying 93 RBIs.
