A VERY SAD AND BURTAL NEWS: Barry Sanders may not play due to burtal…

DB Qwan’tez Stiggers of the Argonauts visits the Detroit Lions in the top 30 of the NFL Draft.28 Sep 1998: Runningback Barry Sanders #20 of the Detroit Lions looks on during a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. The Lions defeated the Buccaneers 27-6.

Prospects residing or attending school within 50 miles of the team facility do not count against this quota, and official visits do not include workouts. Stiggers, due to the uniqueness of his background, is anticipated to visit multiple NFL teams this offseason. The 22-year-old, who did not pursue college due to personal reasons, commenced his career in the Fan Controlled Football League before joining the CFL last season. Eligible for the NFL Draft in 2024 after being three years removed from high school, Stiggers is expected to attend interviews with various NFL teams.

Standing at six feet tall and weighing 197 pounds, Stiggers secured a starting role as boundary cornerback for the Argonauts in 2023, featuring in 15 games and tallying 53 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, and five interceptions. He garnered recognition as an East Division all-star and notably became the first defensive back since 1998 to be named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie.

While Stiggers remains under contract with Toronto for the upcoming season, the club has expressed willingness to consider a compassionate release if he is drafted into the NFL. Consequently, they have granted him permission to participate fully in the pre-draft process. Recently, Stiggers received acclaim for his performance at the East-West Shrine Bowl all-star game and is slated to undergo physical testing at the University of Georgia pro day. The Lions are at the forefront of teams eager to learn more about this unconventional prospect.

If chosen, Stiggers would join a select group of players drafted into the NFL with no collegiate experience, with the last such instance occurring in the common era. Additionally, he could become the first player drafted directly from the CFL since 1999.
