Two Former Brewers from Milwaukee Join The Seattle Mariners
In recent years, there has been a notable exchange of players between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Seattle Mariners. Adding to this trend, a position player and a pitcher have recently joined the Mariners through minor league contracts as free agents.
The Seattle Mariners have recently signed Brian Anderson, an infielder/outfielder, and Trevor Kelley, a relief pitcher, to minor league deals, as reported by Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. According to Jon Heyman, Anderson stands to earn a $2 million salary if he secures a spot on the team. Kelley, who has previously played for four different major league teams, hasn’t had significant success in his career thus far.
Brian Anderson’s tenure with the Milwaukee Brewers saw him initially serving as a crucial component in the team’s lineup during the early part of 2023. Starting in right field on opening day, he later transitioned to third base due to Luis Urias’ hamstring injury. Despite a strong April performance with 20 RBI, Anderson encountered struggles throughout the rest of the season and faced significant time off due to a back injury, leading to his release from the Brewers in October.
During his time with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2022, Trevor Kelley appeared in 18 games, pitching for 23.2 innings and accumulating a 6.08 ERA. With a career ERA of 6.75 over 50.2 innings in the majors, the 31-year-old pitcher has faced consistent challenges throughout his career.
