The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles faced a 28-0 defeat under humid conditions at Mascot Oval today in the third round of the Westpac Lisa Fiaola Cup.

Hoping to maintain their momentum from the previous round’s dominant 46-4 victory over the Dragons, Manly aimed to perform well in the U17s women’s match. Unfortunately, they struggled to make an impact as the Rabbitohs quickly took control, ultimately securing a resounding victory with six tries to none.

South Sydney seized an early lead when winger Tahlya Dower scored untouched in the right corner in the fifth minute, establishing a 4-0 advantage. Despite a strong run by Manly’s lock Siulolo Richter in the 16th minute, which pushed them into Rabbitohs’ territory, they couldn’t retain possession, leading to a turnover.

Fatigue set in towards the end of the first half, allowing the Rabbitohs to capitalize with another try by Sienna Israel, who utilized her speed to outmaneuver Manly’s defense, extending the lead to 8-0. South Sydney increased their lead to 14-0 in the 25th minute with a well-executed crossfield kick that was caught by Kirrawahn Duckett, who maneuvered past a defender to score.

Despite Manly’s efforts, including three consecutive penalties that pushed them deep into Rabbitohs’ territory before halftime, they were unable to breach their opponent’s defense.

In the second half, Manly had several opportunities near the Rabbitohs’ tryline but failed to convert them into points. Meanwhile, South Sydney extended their lead with Dower’s second try, followed by another score from Lani Anderson after a Sea Eagles’ error.

Duckett secured her second try late in the game, capitalizing on a quick break from a scrum, with McGregor successfully converting from the sideline to seal the 28-0 victory for South Sydney.

Next, the Sea Eagles will face the Cronulla Sharks in round four at 4 Pines Park on Sunday, February 25, at 11 am.
