Ex-RB Marshawn Lynch agrees to a plea in his DUI case from 2022.Podcast: What Do the Raiders Stand For?

Las Vegas Municipal Court records show that former running back Marshawn Lynch entered a plea to a DUI charge on Wednesday. However, his attorneys have stated that the case will be closed as reckless driving until he fulfills certain requirements of the plea agreement.

Lynch’s accusations from his Aug. 9, 2022, arrest in Las Vegas—when police discovered him dozing off in the driver’s seat of a “undriveable” 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 against the curb of a downtown street—were to be tried in a trial started on Wednesday. The car had a severely damaged back wheel and one missing front wheel, according to the police. Later on, he was accused of DUI in addition to other crimes. But on Wednesday, his lawyers made the case’s outcome public.

“At this point, Mr. Lynch has not been found guilty of any offense,” local journalists were informed by attorneys Richard Schonfeld and David Chesnoff. “He has agreed to complete certain requirements which will result in this case being closed as a reckless driving traffic offense.”

Lynch, 37, consented to go to DUI traffic school and pay a $1,140 fine. If he completes 200 hours of community service, goes to a victim impact panel, gets an alcohol evaluation, and stays out of trouble for a year, he won’t be found guilty of a misdemeanor DUI. The misdemeanor charges of operating a car without a license plate and failing to drive in a travel lane were dropped.

Local media reports that his next court date is May 21 for a sentence hearing.

In response to a request for comment, the city of Las Vegas sent over a copy of Lynch’s executed contract.

Lynch spent his whole 12-year NFL career—mostly with the Seattle Seahawks—rushing for 10,413 yards and 85 touchdowns. Since his retirement, he has been a part of the “Thursday Night Football” broadcast on Amazon Prime.
