In order to help the No. 5 Vols reach the Final Four, Dalton Knecht lights up NBA draft boards.

Knecht’s impressive scoring performances have elevated him to the ranks of Tennessee basketball legends such as Bernard King, Ernie Grunfeld, Chris Lofton, and Allan Houston. With five regular-season games remaining, the Vols find themselves trailing No. 13 Alabama by one game in the race for the Southeastern Conference regular-season title.
Expressing gratitude for his teammates’ support, Knecht acknowledged the realization of their collective hard work and the guidance of a remarkable coaching staff. Hailing from Thornton, Colorado, Knecht led the Big Sky at Northern Colorado last season, averaging 20.2 points, ranking 23rd nationally in Division I.
Recognizing the need to enhance his defensive skills, Knecht opted to play for Coach Barnes, known for coaching NBA star Kevin Durant during his time at Texas – a decision that was an easy one for Knecht. Barnes, poised to achieve his 800th career victory, has tasked Knecht with being the best player on the court in all aspects of the game, not solely focused on scoring.
Knecht’s stellar performances in the SEC have been noteworthy, becoming the first Tennessee player to score at least 30 points in four of five games and achieving the feat of five 30-point games in a season, a milestone not seen in the SEC for 14 years. Embracing his new teammates’ support, Knecht has seamlessly transitioned into the highly competitive SEC.
In a recent matchup against Missouri, Knecht rebounded from a slow start by hitting 6-of-8 shots in the second half, contributing 17 points and securing his first double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. With fifth-year seniors Josiah Jordan-James and Santiago Vescovi returning, the Volunteers aim for a coveted Final Four berth, and Knecht’s ability to score crucial baskets enhances their chances in the competitive SEC.
Thriving in the challenging environment of the SEC, where he faces top draft picks in every game, Knecht relishes the opportunity to compete against the best with his teammates.
