Four-star recruit for the Michigan Wolverines is ecstatic about defensive line coach Greg Scruggs.
The newly appointed head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Sherrone Moore, has moved swiftly to build his coaching staff, including the addition of former Wisconsin defensive line coach Greg Scruggs. Jaylen Williams, a highly-rated four-star defensive line recruit from Palatine, Illinois, in the 2025 class, shared his positive thoughts on Scruggs following the coaching announcement.
Williams, ranked as a top 300 recruit overall by 247, expressed his admiration for Scruggs in a recent interview, highlighting the strong relationship they had built since Scruggs recruited him during his sophomore year. Williams spoke highly of Coach Moore’s reassurances, stating, “Coach Scruggs is one of my favorite coaches. We’ve built a really good relationship since he recruited me my sophomore year. Coach (Sherrone) Moore definitely didn’t lie when he said ‘trust me.'”
An advantage of bringing Scruggs on board is his existing relationships with many current recruits, including Williams, due to his previous recruiting efforts for Wisconsin in areas similar to Michigan. This not only provides Moore with a coach experienced on the field but also one with effective recruiting skills.
Navigating coaching changes often poses challenges in retaining recruits, but Michigan has managed to maintain the integrity of its recruiting classes, with only minor losses. Despite concerns about the potential impact of Jim Harbaugh’s departure, the program seems to have weathered the transition well. While the on-field performance remains uncertain, Michigan’s recruiting efforts have shown no signs of slowing down.
Looking ahead, the Wolverines face a tough schedule in 2024, featuring one of the most challenging lineups in the nation. Despite this, they may surprise observers with their performance on the field.
