The Steelers are not seeking to start an experienced quarterback, according to reports.

Reports indicate that the Pittsburgh Steelers are not seeking to acquire a veteran quarterback to serve as their starter, closing the door on potential trades for quarterbacks like Justin Fields, Kirk Cousins, and possibly Russell Wilson. The Steelers are committed to giving Kenny Pickett a third season to evaluate if he can go beyond winning a playoff game, something the team hasn’t achieved in a franchise-record seven years. Even if Pickett doesn’t succeed, there seems to be internal division on whether Mason Rudolph should be the starter, considering his performance in the 2023 season, where he won the final three regular-season games to secure a playoff spot.

This development suggests that the Steelers are not interested in any veteran quarterback, whether through trade or signing. If the Bears decide to trade Fields, potential suitors may include the Atlanta Falcons, who recently hired Raheem Morris as head coach and Zac Robinson as offensive coordinator. The New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and Philadelphia Eagles are also mentioned as possible destinations for Fields. However, the Bears would need to act soon on a trade to maximize Fields’ value before the approaching new league year and free agency in March. It is now almost certain that Pittsburgh will not be among the potential landing spots for Fields.
