Tracy Walker’s potential destinations after the Lions released the seasoned safety after six seasons in Detroit.

During the 2023 season, the Detroit Lions gained significant momentum, building on their strong finish in 2022 under coach Dan Campbell. A key contributor to this success was offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who formed an impressive partnership with quarterback Jared Goff, resulting in elite offensive production for the Lions.

Recognizing Johnson’s achievements, Pro Football Network recently named him one of the league’s top play-callers. In their latest ranking of NFL play-callers, Johnson secured the fourth overall position and claimed the top spot among offensive coordinators. Under his guidance, the Lions excelled, ranking third in total yards and fifth in scoring average. Johnson’s innovative play-calling, particularly in utilizing a diverse range of run concepts, made him a sought-after candidate for head coaching positions in the past two offseasons.

Despite receiving enticing offers, Johnson opted to remain with the Lions for the 2024 season. The team is delighted with his decision, as his schematic creativity and contributions have played a crucial role in the Lions’ success. In the ranking, the three coaches ahead of Johnson were all head coaches: Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 1, Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers at No. 2, and Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams at No. 3.
