According to a report, Diontae Johnson is “doubtful” about staying with the Pittsburgh Steelers past 2024.

The Pittsburgh Steelers face a crucial offseason decision regarding the extension of Diontae Johnson, according to Mark Madden’s statements on the Breakfast with Benz podcast on February 19. Madden expressed skepticism about the likelihood of Johnson securing a contract extension based on reports.

Madden mentioned the possibility of Johnson resorting to a hold-in, similar to two years ago, as he enters the final year of his contract. The receiver is rumored to raise concerns about the team’s quarterback situation, particularly favoring Pickett. Madden, while not a fan of Johnson, criticized the idea of parting ways with him solely based on his quarterback preference.

During the 2023 NFL season, Johnson had notable on-field performances, recording 51 receptions for 717 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games. However, his season was marred by off-field controversies. In Week 8, he blamed NFL referees for a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and in Week 11, engaged in a heated locker room argument with teammate Minkah Fitzpatrick. A week later, he faced criticism for lack of effort on a fumble against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Despite the ups and downs, Johnson’s potential trade could yield assets for the Steelers, considering his ability as an above-average wide receiver when motivated. The New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, and Carolina Panthers are identified as potential landing spots due to their need to strengthen their wide receiver depth.
