Star of the Wigan Warriors Bevan French discusses his NRL goals ahead of the World Club Challenge matchup with the Penrith Panthers.
Wigan Warriors player Bevan French has expressed his NRL aspirations ahead of the World Club Challenge against the Penrith Panthers. French recently extended his contract with Wigan for two years, with the option of an additional two years, setting the stage for future negotiations during the 2023 Super League season.
Having joined the Warriors in 2019, the 28-year-old has made a significant impact, scoring 76 tries in 87 appearances and earning the Steve Prescott Man of Steel award last season. Despite his success in the Super League, French has a goal of returning to the NRL, as he explained to NRL.com: “I came over here with the goal of wanting to get back to the NRL one day. It’s important, and you’ve got to pick the right timing as well. If you do go back, it’s sort of your last shot so everything’s got to fall into place.”
Acknowledging personal and team goals at Wigan, including winning a premiership, French emphasized his commitment to fulfilling these objectives before considering a return to the NRL. Excited about facing the Penrith Panthers in the upcoming World Club Challenge, French sees it as an opportunity to measure himself against an NRL premiership-winning team.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism and sticking to the game plan, highlighting that staying level-headed and consistent would be more impressive to him than trying to stand out. French views the match as a test to adhere to their strategies, focusing on competing on every play.
The World Club Challenge is scheduled to kick off at 8 pm on Saturday night at the DW Stadium.
