Dolphins hire DeShawn Shead, a former Seahawks DB and assistant coach.Steelers and Super Bowl still bad mix for Seahawks fans | KNKX Public Radio

Former Seattle Seahawks defensive back and assistant DBs coach, DeShawn Shead, is set to embark on a new coaching chapter with the Miami Dolphins under head coach Mike McDaniel. As the Seahawks undergo staff changes with the arrival of new head coach Mike Macdonald, former members of Pete Carroll’s coaching staff are finding opportunities elsewhere.

Shead, who played several seasons in Seattle and spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach for the Seahawks, shared the news of his move to Miami on Instagram. In his post, he expressed gratitude for his time in Seattle, highlighting personal milestones such as meeting his wife, starting his NFL career, becoming a Super Bowl champion, and establishing lifelong friendships. He specifically thanked Pete Carroll, former teammates and players, the Seattle community, and the Seahawks organization for his 12-year journey with the team.

Excited about the next step in his coaching career, Shead looks forward to joining the Miami Dolphins for the upcoming season. While the specific coaching role in Miami hasn’t been officially confirmed, it is presumed that Shead will continue his work as a defensive backs coach. The Dolphins recently underwent changes in their coaching staff, parting ways with Vic Fangio and appointing Anthony Weaver from the Baltimore Ravens as their third defensive coordinator in as many seasons under McDaniel.

Shead, who initially joined the Seahawks as an undrafted player from Portland State University in 2012, made significant contributions during the Super Bowl-winning 2013 season, evolving from the practice squad to the active roster. He played roles on special teams and as a reserve safety before becoming a starting outside cornerback in 2015. Unfortunately, his playing career was hampered by an ACL injury in the 2016 playoffs. Shead retired in 2021 and transitioned to coaching, marking the beginning of his coaching journey outside of Seattle with the Miami Dolphins.
