Tom Brady: “I’m Still Mad” About the Patriots’ Three Super Bowl Losses

Bring Me Back!': New England Patriots Receiver Kendrick Bourne Wants Foxboro Return - Sports Illustrated New England Patriots News, Analysis and More

Throughout his illustrious career, Tom Brady achieved more than any player could realistically imagine. With an NFL-record seven Super Bowl rings, surpassing any single NFL franchise, Brady led the New England Patriots to two separate dynasties during his 20-year tenure with the team. He added another ring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, silencing those who labeled him a “system quarterback.” Despite these remarkable accomplishments, Brady reflects on what could have been if a few more things had gone his way. His Patriots experienced three Super Bowl losses, against the New York Giants in 2007 and 2011, and the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. Over a year since retiring, Brady still harbors feelings of disappointment about those three games. Speaking on his Let’s Go podcast, Brady admitted, “I’m not over any of the Super Bowl losses. I am still mad. Sixteen years later, in ’07. I’m still mad, the 2011 Super Bowl, I’m still mad we lost to the [Philadelphia] Eagles.” Despite the lingering frustration, Brady acknowledges that one can’t change the outcomes and must learn to live with them. He emphasizes that being on the grand stage provides a significant opportunity to win a ring, but the flip side involves enduring the most challenging losses of one’s career. Brady’s three Super Bowl losses were all close contests, making it difficult to pinpoint which one hurt the most. The 2007 loss to the Giants denied the Patriots an undefeated season, while the 2011 defeat to the same opponent felt eerily familiar, including a dramatic catch on New York’s final drive. In 2017, despite Brady’s outstanding performance with 505 passing yards and three touchdowns, the Patriots’ defense faltered against the Eagles. Despite the pain of those losses, they served as motivation for Brady to continue pushing himself to achieve greatness.
