The Kansas City Chiefs secured their second consecutive Super Bowl victory, thanks to former Georgia wide receiver Mecole Hardman making the game-winning catch in overtime.

Regardless of the Super Bowl 58 outcome, Georgia fans had reason to celebrate, as former Bulldogs were represented on both the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs teams. However, the highlight was having a former Georgia player, Mecole Hardman, involved in the decisive play.

Hardman, a former Georgia wide receiver, caught the game-winning touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes, securing the Chiefs’ victory. This marked the team’s third Super Bowl win in the last five years, including two victories against the 49ers.

Georgia fans flooded social media platforms to express their joy at seeing a former Dawg excel on the grandest stage:

– “MECOLE AGAIN !!!! Vegas was dominated by Dawgs tonight ” – UGA Spike Squad
– “MECOLE HARDMAN WITH THE GAME WINNING TD IN THE SUPER BOWL!!!!#DAMNGOODDAWG” – UGA United
– “Former Georgia Bulldog Mecole Hardman wins the Super Bowl for Kansas City with a receiving TD seconds before the end of the first overtime period. Wow.” – Graham Coffey

Hardman, originally drafted by the Chiefs in the 2nd round of the 2019 NFL Draft, has now contributed to all three Kansas City Super Bowl victories during the Andy Reid-Patrick Mahomes era.

The game itself was notable as only the second overtime game in Super Bowl history. Ironically, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan, who was on the losing end of the first overtime game as the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons in 2017, found himself in a similar position in this historic matchup.
