College GameDay is coming to Columbia, South Carolina basketball players!
South Carolina basketball participated in the College GameDay game of the week just once this season, and that match took place away from home in Baton Rouge against LSU in January. Now, the Gamecocks are set to host the Georgia Bulldogs in Columbia for their sole regular-season meeting, attracting the attention of the GameDay panel, including Elle Duncan, Andraya Carter, Rebecca Lobo, Carolyn Peck, and Chiney Ogwumike.
The upcoming Sunday game against Georgia at Colonial Life Arena, which is already sold out, marks the fifth consecutive Sunday sellout for the Gamecocks. This consistent support positions them well to potentially break the all-time attendance record, both in average and total fan attendance. South Carolina aims to continue its undefeated streak and faces Georgia, a team currently in the last place with only two SEC victories.
The last encounter between the Gamecocks and the Bulldogs occurred during last year’s Senior Day festivities for the “Freshies” class, resulting in a more competitive game than expected. In contrast, this year, South Carolina, leading both in the league and national polls, anticipates a less challenging match against Georgia, currently at the bottom of the standings.
Dawn Staley’s team has its sights set on a win over Georgia and completing an undefeated regular season. Kamilla Cardoso will be back on the roster after her participation in Olympic qualifiers in Brazil, but the return of suspended freshman Sahnya Jah remains uncertain. As they approach the NCAA Tournament, having a more complete roster will undoubtedly benefit the Gamecocks.
Before the Sunday clash with Georgia, South Carolina basketball will face Tennessee in Knoxville on Thursday at 7:00 PM EST, broadcast on ESPN. The Georgia game will be televised on ABC and the ESPN app at 1:00 PM EST on Sunday.
