Report: Tennessee Volunteers RB Coach Jerry Mack Will Join Jaguars.
The Jaguars have found a replacement for Bernie Parmalee in their coaching staff under Doug Pederson for the 2024 season. Jerry Mack, the running backs coach for the Tennessee Volunteers, is set to join the Jaguars in the same capacity, according to a report by 247Sport’s Matt Zenitz.
Mack’s name had surfaced in reports a few days prior, and now he is confirmed as the official successor to the former running backs coach, Bernie Parmalee. In his initial season with Tennessee, Mack played a significant role in the Volunteers’ improvement in rushing yards per game, moving from No. 84 to an impressive No. 11. The Volunteers achieved a noteworthy feat in 2022, tying a school record with 40 rushing touchdowns, ranking third nationally. Notably, Tennessee stood out as the only SEC program with multiple running backs recording 10 or more rushing touchdowns during the year.
Before his stint with Tennessee, Mack held the position of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Rice for three seasons. Additionally, he served as the head coach at North Carolina Central for four seasons, amassing a record of 31-15. His coaching experience also includes roles such as a wide receivers coach at South Alabama, a receivers coach at Memphis, an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, a passing game coordinator and receivers coach at Central Arkansas, and a wide receivers and tight ends coach at Jackson State.
Furthermore, Mack gained NFL experience through five internships with the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, and Miami Dolphins.
Taking on the role with the Jaguars, Mack will be responsible for coaching a running backs room featuring Travis Etienne, who has achieved back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons, and Tank Bigsby, a third-round pick in the 2023 draft.
