Georgia Tech aims to capitalize on its successful 2023 season and continue progressing under the leadership of Brent Key. The Yellow Jackets boast a dynamic offense, returning a highly productive group from the ACC last year.

A standout last season, Jamal Haynes transitioned from wide receiver to running back during fall camp, earning him all-ACC honors as a third-team running back and an honorable mention all-purpose performer. Haynes led Georgia Tech in rushing with 1,059 yards, seven touchdowns, and an impressive 6.0 yards per carry, ranking fifth in the ACC for rushing yards. Notably, he achieved three 100-yard rushing games in a season, a feat not seen since Jordan Mason in 2019. Haynes only needs 69 yards in the upcoming bowl game to become the program’s first 1,000-yard rusher since 2017.

The departure of Dontae Smith, who excelled alongside Haynes in the backfield last year, leaves an opening for a complementary running back. Trey Cooley, who showed promise in 2023, could fill that role after ranking fourth in rushing yards, attempts, and yards per carry. Daylon Gordon, entering his third year with the program, may also contribute, particularly in special teams.

Jamie Felix, despite entering the transfer portal and returning, is a versatile player with potential contributions, having rushed for 80 yards and gained 41 receiving yards in 2022. True freshman Evan Dickens demonstrated potential in 2023, particularly in special teams and as a reserve running back.

Chad Alexander, another true freshman from last year, displayed promise on special teams, making three tackles and recovering a muffed punt. The 2024 class brought two dynamic running backs, Anthony Carrie and Trelain Maddox, with notable achievements and high potential.

Carrie, a four-star prospect, ranked ninth nationally among running backs and 20th in the talent-rich state of Florida. He showcased exceptional balance, vision, and a great burst during his high school career, accumulating 3,818 rushing yards and 55 touchdowns.

Maddox, a three-star prospect, contributed significantly to Parkview’s success in the 7 on 7 championship and rushed for 515 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023, despite dealing with injuries.

With a loaded running back position, Georgia Tech looks poised for another strong season, provided the running backs maintain or exceed their previous production.
