Spring football is approaching, and Georgia Tech aims to build on its successful 2023 season under Coach Brent Key. The team boasts a dynamic offense, particularly in the running game, with Jamal Haynes emerging as a star. Haynes, who switched from wide receiver to running back, earned all-ACC honors with impressive stats, leading the team in rushing yards, touchdowns, and yards per carry.

As the team heads into spring practices, one key storyline to watch is the competition for the backup running back position. Last season, Dontae Smith complemented Haynes, but Smith has moved on to the NFL Draft. Trey Cooley, who showed promise in several games, is a strong candidate for the role. Daylon Gordon, with a background in special teams, could also play a significant role.

Other players expected to contribute include Jamie Felix, who returned to Georgia Tech after briefly entering the transfer portal, true freshman Evan Dickens, and Chad Alexander, who showcased his skills on special teams. The 2024 class introduced Anthony Carrie and Trelain Maddox, both highly touted prospects with impressive high school records.

Carrie, a four-star prospect, brings versatility, agility, and a strong track record from his high school career. Trelain Maddox, a three-star prospect, demonstrated his skills during the Corky Kell 7 on 7 classic, leading his team to victory. Despite injury setbacks in 2023, Maddox displayed his talent with a standout performance against North Gwinnett.

With a loaded running back roster, Georgia Tech is poised for another strong season, and spring practices will offer opportunities for these players to showcase their skills and secure valuable playing time.
