Georgia has secured another significant addition from the college football transfer portal, with tight end Benjamin Yurosek announcing his decision to leave Stanford and join the Bulldogs for the 2024 football season. Yurosek, ranked as the No. 6 consensus tight end prospect in the 2024 transfer portal player rankings, cited Georgia’s combination of high-level competition in the SEC and the team’s utilization of the tight end position as key factors in his choice.

Expressing his preference for Georgia, Yurosek stated, “Obviously, Georgia has the best of both worlds. They have big-time football and the use of tight ends.”

During the 2021 season, Yurosek led Stanford in receiving yards with 658 and has accumulated 108 receptions for 1,342 yards in the past three seasons as a starter. He is expected to fill the void left by departing tight end Brock Bowers in the 2024 season. Despite being hampered by a shoulder injury in the previous season, Yurosek played in six games, securing 16 passes for 239 yards before the injury surfaced.

The NCAA Transfer Portal, a private database encompassing student-athletes from all Division I, II, and III sports, serves as the platform for athletes to express their intent to transfer. Yurosek’s entry into the portal signifies his decision to seek a transfer, allowing other schools to contact him. The compliance office of the player’s current school has 48 hours to comply with the request, adhering to NCAA rules. Once a player enters the portal, their original school is no longer obligated to honor the athletic scholarship, and the player retains the flexibility to withdraw from the transfer portal at any point. If the player returns to their original school, the school is not obligated to provide another scholarship.
