Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson and Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce seemed to playfully embrace a surprising twist, as Johnson declared on Instagram Live that he had secured a position with the Raiders. Johnson expressed his involvement with the team, emphasizing his uncertainty about the specific role but expressing excitement about being part of the organization.

In an apparent confirmation, Johnson shared a photo on Twitter featuring himself alongside Pierce, and he even posted a screenshot of a conversation with a skeptical friend who doubted his employment with the team.

Pierce, who recently became the permanent head coach for the Raiders after serving as interim HC in the final nine weeks of the 2023 season, tweeted about Johnson potentially working with star receiver Davante Adams, suggesting Johnson’s inclusion in the coaching staff.

However, ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez debunked the legitimacy of Johnson’s announcement, clarifying on Thursday night that, according to his conversation with Chad Johnson, there was no truth to the claim. Gutierrez described it as a playful interaction on social media.

Despite lacking prior coaching experience, Johnson briefly worked with the Cleveland Browns receivers during training camp in 2016. With a notable career as a four-time All-Pro selection and six-time Pro Bowler, Johnson spent ten seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and one with the New England Patriots, accumulating impressive stats of 766 receptions, 11,059 yards, and 67 touchdowns. He holds a position in the NFL’s top 50 all-time for both receiving yards (40th) and receptions (42nd).
