A former forward for the Golden State Warriors may have suffered a catastrophic leg injury.
Former Golden State Warriors forward Anthony Lamb has reportedly suffered a significant leg injury while playing for the New Zealand Breakers in the NBL. Initial concerns suggest it could be a torn Achilles, similar to injuries suffered by NBA stars Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson.
ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reported the fears surrounding Lamb’s injury. Although scans are pending to confirm the extent of the injury, Breakers’ coach Mody Maor expressed pessimism in the immediate aftermath of the game, stating, “it doesn’t look so good.”
Lamb played a surprisingly prominent role for the Golden State Warriors during the 2022-23 season, initially starting as a two-way contracted player. The versatile forward averaged 19.3 minutes in 62 regular-season games, contributing 6.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. He also displayed efficient shooting, with a 47.1% field goal percentage and a 36.7% three-point shooting percentage.
Late in the season, Lamb earned a guaranteed contract, making him eligible for the Warriors’ 2023 playoff run, where he saw limited playing time. His role in the team, especially ahead of emerging talent Jonathan Kuminga, became a storyline and a source of frustration for some fans.
Unable to secure another NBA contract, Lamb joined the New Zealand Breakers with the goal of earning a return to the league. In the NBL, he showcased his skills as one of the star imports, averaging 19.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists with a shooting percentage of 50%.
Lamb’s journey includes going undrafted in 2020, playing for the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs before joining the Warriors for training camp last season. The injury now poses a significant setback to his aspirations of returning to the NBA.
