Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy deserves recognition for this season - Blogging The Boys

Amari Cooper is expected to finally be replaced by the Cowboys opposite CeeDee Lamb.

The Dallas Cowboys, facing salary cap constraints and potential movement of Brandin Cooks, may be eyeing a wide receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft to fill the void left by Amari Cooper’s departure in 2022. According to Matt Miller of ESPN, the Cowboys could select Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman with the No. 24 overall pick.

Coleman, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound receiver, showcased his talent at Florida State with 50 catches for 658 yards and 11 touchdowns in his junior season. Despite being viewed as a bit of a boom-or-bust prospect by Pro Football Focus, Coleman’s prototypical NFL size and exceptional ball skills, especially in contested situations, make him an intriguing option.

The potential selection of Coleman would address the Cowboys’ need for a consistent complementary weapon alongside CeeDee Lamb. The move would also allow the team to move forward without committing to a significant extension for Cooks, adding youth to the receiving corps.

While Coleman’s production has been considered middling at times, his ability to make spectacular catches and excel in the red zone is acknowledged. His tracking, ball-plucking skills, and strength in finishing plays are seen as valuable assets.

In addition to the offensive considerations, the Cowboys must address the defensive coordinator position following Dan Quinn’s departure. Jerry Jones expressed confidence in finding a suitable replacement for Quinn and emphasized the potential for the new coordinator to aspire to a head coaching role, given the departure of Quinn to Washington.

As the pressure mounts for head coach Mike McCarthy to break a 29-year NFC Championship Game drought, the Cowboys are navigating important personnel decisions on both sides of the ball.
