‘Close To An Agreement’ With Mets Following A Strong Second Half for Former Red Sox Hurler
It appears that the Mets and a former Red Sox player are getting close to reaching a deal.

One day, the New York Mets might acquire a former Boston Red Sox player.

Jake Diekman, a former pitcher for the Red Sox, is searching free agency for a fresh opportunity. The veteran southpaw is supposedly “close to an agreement” with the New York Mets, having spent the 2023 season with the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays, according to Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletics.

“The Mets are close to an agreement with left-handed reliever Jake Diekman, league sources told me and Ken Rosenthal,” Sammon stated.
With a 3.82 ERA and a 724–334 strikeout–to–walk ratio throughout his 12 years in the majors, Diekman has made 662 appearances for the Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Red Sox, White Sox, and Rays.

After being chosen by the Phillies in the 30th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft, he made his major league debut in 2012. Following a successful tenure with the Athletics, Diekman signed a two-year contract with a club option for the 2024 season and joined the Red Sox in 2022.

Diekman was moved to the White Sox in exchange for pitcher Taylor Broadway and catcher Reese McGuire in 2022 after making just 44 appearances with Boston. After struggling in Chicago, the lefty was finally let go in 2023.

He joined the Rays right away and totally changed the situation. Diekman, who pitched for Tampa Bay last season and had a 2.18 ERA in 50 games, will probably join New York to support the bullpen.
