Dave Canales’s team grows by four offensive assistants with the Panthers.

The team’s run game coordinator and associate head coach will be Harold Goodwin. The Panthers are capitalizing on the growing prevalence of the run/pass game coordinator position in the NFL. Since 2019, when they had a largely awful run game, Goodwin has worked in the same role for Tampa Bay. That may not be very motivating, but since the circumstances are different, perhaps it will work.

Bernie Parmalee, who did not previously work for Dave Canales, joins the staff as the running backs coach. Since 2021, he has served as the Jaguars’ running backs coach, assisting in Travis Etienne’s growth.

Rob Moore was hired externally as well. He will coach the wide receivers for the team. Since 2018, he served as the wide receivers coach for the Titans. Although he was around when AJ Brown rose to prominence, he hasn’t had much opportunity to work his magic on other talented players.

Joe Gilbert, who was the offensive line coach in Tampa Bay, is bringing Canales with him. He’ll apply his skills to this role as well, maybe with more success. Under his direction, the Buccaneers’ offensive line has not been very good.

We can’t really say for sure what type of coaches these guys are because we don’t know what kind of work they do behind the scenes. But none of them truly have a history of noteworthy achievement in the recent past. I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but hopefully they’re better coaches than their individual squads’ output would suggest.
