Carolina Panthers are likely to hire Bay’ assistant as offensive coordinator.
The Buccaneers may soon need to fill another staff position, as the WRs coach is expected to move to North Carolina.
With Dave Canales taking over as head coach of the Carolina Panthers, one may have expected a ripple effect. The Buccaneers’ coaching staff will change, but there may be more openings in the near future.
According to BucsGameday’s JC Allen, the Panthers have sought an interview with Buccaneers wide receivers coach Brad Idzik, which is not surprising given that Canales has taken over as head coach since leaving Tampa.
Ian Rapoport said on Sunday that the Panthers will “likely go” with Idzik to fill the offensive coordinator position. This comes as no surprise, as it would provide more familiarity for Canales, who is scheduled to manage the franchise.
Idzik and Canales have been working together for five years. They coached together for four years with the Seattle Seahawks before having a successful 2023 season with the Buccaneers. Obviously, Canales taking on a larger role with a new franchise has paved the way for Idzik to be promoted and gain a bigger new role.
Following Canales’ departure, the Buccaneers are showing interest in Idzik for an internal promotion to become the team’s new offensive coordinator. Losing another employee would compel the Buccaneers to incorporate more of a fresh look into the franchise’s future.
This past season, Idzik helped Mike Evans hit the 1,000 receiving yards mark for the third time in his career. This benefited Baker Mayfield, whose reversal helped Canales gain recognition as a coach.
According to various sources, the Buccaneers are interested in Houston Texans quarterback coach Jerrod Johnson, who helped guide a turnaround that saw rookie CJ Stroud lead the team back to the playoffs.
